MagicalButter Machine FAQ South Africa

How does it work?

The MagicalButter machine is scientifically designed for a specific purpose: creating incredible recipes and botanical infusions with little or no labour. Unique among kitchen appliances, the MB is encoded with microprocessor-controlled program sequences to optimise your results, consistently and predictably. The MagicalButter machine combines an immersion blender with a digital thermostat and heating unit. The MB grinds, heats, stirs, and steeps your herbal extract, all at the correct time intervals and temperature. So, you achieve your desired infusion easily, safely, and consistently.

Can I use it even if I’m a stranger to the kitchen?

Absolutely! Here at MagicalButter we believe in inclusiveness, relaxed ease, and push-button convenience. We’re so committed to these core values, we deliberately make our machines as simple to use as possible, so everyone can be included in the fun! We’ve replaced all the tedious guesswork with predictable results and a cool light show. Just add your ingredients, press two buttons, and get ready to…Eat to Treat®! Also, the recipes make it even easier to use the MagicalButter machine.

Is this for me? Who else uses this?

Professional chefs, restaurants, caterers, foodies, herbal therapy patients, your friends…anyone with a taste for healthy herbal cooking! Compounding pharmacies also appreciate our precision and reliability when making herbal remedies.

Does the MagicalButter machine actually make butter?

The MB does a lot, though it is not an electric butter churn. (No need to go out and get a cow!) Butter is a recipe ingredient, which the machine infuses with the essence of the other ingredients in the recipe, such as fresh herbs and spices. You can also use oil, alcohol, or glycerin as a base.

What about aromas?

To us, they’re delightful. We’d enjoy using the MB to make herbal cologne. Still, we understand discretion, so we could smell that question coming a mile away! Not to worry. We’ve equipped the MagicalButter machine with our proprietary ScentLock™ lid, which keeps all but a faint, fresh herbal aroma inside, making the cooking process as discreet as possible.

What is MBO?

MBO, or MagicalButterOil Concentrate, is the herbal extract with the highest concentration and potency. If you first prepare a special-recipe tincture just for reduction to MBO in your MB machine and then cook off the grain alcohol, the remaining thick herbal syrup is MBO. And for the first time, the MagicalButter MBO machine now completes the entire process for you safely and simply—at the touch of a button—and even conserves your alcohol for next time! Stills can also be used to cook off the alcohol for reuse.

What is the purpose of the LED lights?

Aside from providing ambiance and a colourful, hypnotic light show in your kitchen, the LED display on your MagicalButter machine informs you of the machine’s operating status. The lights are strategically positioned to reflect off the ceiling during operation. As the device is silent when not blending or stirring, the LED display constantly and silently indicates that the cooking cycle is proceeding. The lights automatically shut off, and the unit beeps, to notify you when the cycle is completed.

Do I need to decarboxylate?

Decarboxylation is only for specific, rare blossoms and herbs. Do NOT attempt with common, commercially available culinary herbs, fruits, and flowers, as it will remove their moisture and flavour.

What happens if my MagicalButter machine needs repair or replacement under the warranty?

We’ll have you send the complete device back to us, including all parts. If we are notified of a problem due to a defect in materials or construction within the warranty period (1 year), we will eliminate the problem via repair or replacement, at our sole discretion, free of charge. Issues brought to our attention after the warranty period has expired, or if caused by misuse or carelessness – like dropping the device – we will gladly perform the service once we have received your payment of the repair and return shipping costs. Further information on returns is available here.

What’s the difference between a MagicalButter machine and a double boiler?

A double boiler (as with a Crock-Pot) leaves many variables to chance. Most importantly, how long to cook extractions, how often to stir, what temperature is best to achieve optimum results, the best way to filter, limiting nutrient loss, and controlling odors. Also, such devices lack an immersion blender, digital thermostat, and microprocessors, making them incapable of doing what our botanical extractor does.

What do the buttons do?

The buttons program the microprocessors that control the duration, temperature, and blending intervals of all cooking cycles: grinding, heating, stirring, and steeping. To intensify your extract, select a longer cycle (4 hours maximum, except for tincture). The standard cycle time for oil is 1 hour, for butter 2 hours, and for tincture 4 (or 8) hours. The Blend/Clean function has a run time of about 3 minutes. The Blend button, present on certain models, operates the manual blending function.

The Temperature button allows you to select from No Heat, 110º/43ºC, 130ºF/54ºC, 160°F/71°C, 190°F/88°C, 220°F/104°C, and 250°F/121°C temperature settings. (Note: Not all temperature options listed are present on all models. Please refer to the owner’s manual for your specific model settings.) Pressing the same button jumps to the next setting. The recommended setting for herb-based recipes is 160°F/71°C. However, select 130°F/54°C when using at high altitude or in a dry climate.

How do I use the self-cleaning function?

Unplug the electrical cord from the device. Fill the pitcher with water to a level halfway between the MIN and MAX lines. Add a small amount of dish soap the size of a coin. Secure the head, plug the electrical cord back in, and press the Blend/Clean button. After the Blend/Clean cycle has completed, unplug the electrical cord from the device, and rinse the remaining soap out of the interior of the pitcher. Note: DO NOT WET OR SUBMERGE ANY BLACK-COLORED PARTS OF THE MACHINE.

Why won’t the MagicalButter machine operate when filled below the MIN line or above the MAX line?

The internal programming of the MagicalButter machine is designed to shut the device down automatically if cooking is attempted with either too little or too much material inside. If the pitcher is filled below the MIN line, sensors act to prevent overheating; if above the MAX line, to prevent overflow. This important design feature protects your MB machine and extends its lifespan, ensuring you get the most enjoyment possible from your experience.
